Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers

How do DITW contractors avoid cable stress?

DITW contractors avoid cable stress, such as those caused by tension in suspended cable runs and tightly cinched bundles. Our contractors minimize running data lines with tightly cinched bindings. Our cable bindings, if used to tie multiple cables together, are irregularly spaced and secured loosely for easy removal.

What cable category does DITW use?

DITW uses  CAT6 for all present and future clients. We no longer use CAT5e Ethernet networks. Not only does CAT6 provide significantly lower interference or Near-End Crosstalk (NEXT) in the transmission compared to CAT5e, it also improves Equal-Level Far-End Crosstalk (ELFEXT), Return Loss (RL) and Insertion Loss (IL). The result is less system noise, fewer errors, and higher data transmission rates.

Best practice or industry code prohibits what?

DITW contractors are strictly prohibited from attaching low voltage wiring directly to conduit systems, conduit system hardware, or anything similar. Steel, masonry, independent rods, independent support wires, or other structural parts of the building shall be used for cable support attachment points up to the total weight the fastener is approved. Rods or wires that are currently employed for other functions (e.g. suspended ceiling grid support) are never utilized as attachment points for non-continuous supports.

Why should I choose DITW as my Low Voltage Contractor?

Select a reputable low voltage contractor for your cables.

The days of running Ethernet patch cables across your floors or taped to your ceiling are over. While you can get away with many questionable material choices or installation practices, it behooves you to learn about the correct way to install low voltage cabling to proactively save yourself from network problems now or in the future. Most network issues are due to poor installation practices. Choose a reputable low voltage wiring professional to install your telecommunication system

How does DITW contractors run cabling with carpet?

Our contractors are prohibited from running cabling under carpet as this is not the recommended best practice If there is no other pathway system, DITW uses flat Category 6 cabling for carpet runs that connect to rounded Category 6 cabling on the connecting side.

How does DITW contractors handle abandoned cable?

DITW contractors remove abandoned cabling in sight when installing your new telecommunications wiring. The National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, Article 800.2 “Definitions” provides the following definition of an abandoned cable; See Article 100.
